The Stoa Series Videos

The videos from my presentations at The Stoa are embedded on this page.

In August 2021, I was invited to give a presentation there called Cultural Co-Evolver: Frameworks, Skillsets, & Strategy for Embodied Action. In that presentation, I describe three foundational dysfunctions that I see as pervasive throughout modern culture:

  • Being clueless about psychodynamics
  • Using narrow modes of cognition
  • Using an outmoded strategy for success

I see the combination of these three at the root of all of the big issues the world now faces: climate change, social injustice, species extinction, unsustainable economy, deforestation, dysfunctional governments, nuclear weapons, soil depletion, runaway technology and on and on.

The people at The Stoa then invited me back to be their “Philosopher in Residence” for four events – Nov 9, 23, 30 and Dec 7, 2021.

I used the first three events to chart a way forward out of those big issues by exploring what’s involved in directly turning around the foundational dysfunctions:

  • Being savvy about psychodynamics (the focus on Nov 9)
  • Being skillful with diverse modes of cognition (the focus for Nov 23)
  • Being adept at the new strategy for success (the focus for Nov 30)

The fourth event on Dec 7 was an open conversation.
