Council of the New Findhorn Association's Code
of Ethics
We believe that behind the material world there lies a spiritual
reality which permeates and unites all people, all life and all
matter. This reality is called variously God, Spirit, Brahman,
Allah, Buddha Nature and many other names. Its essential nature
as we understand it is Love, Truth and Wisdom.
We seek to express these beliefs through our lives. Hence,
the purpose of the New Findhorn Association is to be a diversity
of people exploring a way of living in the world in alignment
with Spirit, in co-operation with each other, and in service to
the Earth.
As elected representatives of the Association, we, the Listener-Convenors
and Councillors, undertake to enable and facilitate the achievement
of this purpose to the best of our abilities, and seek to embody
the highest spiritual and ethical principles in our personal lives.
In particular, we aspire to:
- Bring an awareness of the presence of God into all aspects
of our lives;
- Seek inner wisdom on what will best serve the highest
good of the whole before making any decision on behalf of the
Association;
- Bring the qualities of openness, integrity, efficiency,
compassion, simplicity and joy to our work for the Association;
- Co-operate harmoniously with each other, Members of the
Association, and the surrounding community;
- Resolve all conflicts as soon as possible by peaceful
means;
- Act openly and with integrity and justice in our business
dealings with organisations and individuals both within and outside
the Association;
- Abide by all laws of the land except in the event of a
conscientious objection in which case we will act openly and
accept due penalties;
- Speak fairly and impartially of other individuals and
organisations in all public announcements and within Council
meetings, giving them the benefit of the doubt if they are not
present or are unrepresented;
- Encourage, support and value diversity within the Association,
including of race, ethnicity, colour, religion, abilities, gender
and sexual orientation;
- Promote healthy development of the Association that is
economically, ecologically, culturally, socially and spiritually
sustainable and based on the ideal of right livelihood.
Any organisation wishing to become a member of the Association
shall adopt a Code of Ethics in alignment with this Code.
People-Members of the Association shall aspire to similar ethical
standards in their personal and collective lives.
